Why we built an IOP that happens at home

A lot of adults hit a point where weekly therapy isn’t enough. A hospital or day program would mean stepping away from work, kids or school, so many of them wait.

We brought the intensity home instead. Live groups and therapy on video, a few days a week, with a care team behind every session. You stay in your life while you work on it.

Levels of care

What is an intensive outpatient program?

An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is structured mental health treatment with more hours than weekly therapy, usually 9 to 12 a week, and no overnight stay. At Thrive it happens on live video: group therapy, individual therapy and psychiatric care when you need it, about three hours a day, a few days a week.

Most people come to us because weekly therapy stopped being enough. Others are leaving a hospital stay and need a steady next step.

Our growing reach

Adults in 7 states, one program

Thrive serves adults 18 and older in Arizona, California, Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas. Because care happens on video, groups form around what people are working on, not where they live.

In-network with Aetna, Cigna, Optum, Florida Blue, Anthem and TRICARE, among others.

What is a virtual intensive outpatient program?

A virtual IOP is structured mental health treatment delivered on live video. At Thrive that means group therapy, individual therapy and psychiatric care when you need it, usually 9 to 12 hours a week across a few days, with no overnight stay.

How is a virtual IOP different from an online therapy app?

Therapy apps usually offer a weekly session or messaging with one therapist. An IOP is a clinical program: several hours of live care each week, group and individual therapy, a psychiatric provider when needed, and a care team that tracks your progress. It’s billed to insurance like other outpatient treatment.

Can I keep working while I’m in the program?

Yes. That’s what an IOP is built for. Sessions run about three hours a day, a few days a week, and your schedule is set with you at intake around work, school and family.

How long does the program last?

It depends on your progress, not a fixed calendar. The median stay at Thrive is 74 days, and we plan your step down to less intensive care with you.

Who can join Thrive’s virtual IOP?

Adults 18 and older who live in Arizona, California, Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, South Carolina or Texas. See our locations.

Does insurance cover a virtual IOP?

Most commercial plans and TRICARE cover our IOP. We check your benefits for free and get back to you within 24 hours. See the plans we work with.

What if I’m in crisis during the program?

An IOP is not emergency care. If you are in danger right now, call or text 988 or call 911. Between sessions, your care team can help you plan next steps.
