FAQs
Your questions answered
Does Thrive treat students under 18?
No. Thrive treats adults 18 and older, so this page is for college, university and graduate students and adult learners.
Will treatment pull my student out of class?
Sessions run on weekday evenings, from home, so most students can keep going to class during treatment.
Is treatment confidential?
Yes. Thrive follows HIPAA and shares information about a student only with their written consent.
Do I need the student's permission to refer?
We recommend talking with the student first, since our admissions team will reach out to them directly. Students 18 and older make their own decisions about care.
Can family be involved?
Yes, with the student's consent. Optional family sessions help families understand what is going on and support recovery.
What happens after I refer?
Our admissions team contacts the student, verifies insurance and schedules an assessment. With the student's consent, we let you know when they start.
Is Thrive in network with insurance?
Many students are covered on a parent's commercial plan. Thrive is in network with most major commercial plans and TRICARE, and we verify benefits before the first session. We do not accept Medicaid or Medicare.
How quickly can someone start?
Across 28 admissions from February to September 2026, the median time from referral to IOP admission was 8 days.
What happens if a student's condition worsens during treatment?
They are never on their own. Our 24/7 crisis line is available throughout treatment, and their treatment team reassesses the level of care. If they need more support than IOP, we help arrange it.
