What your covered program may include
Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) bridges the gap between weekly therapy and inpatient care. It offers the structure and community of a clinical program with the flexibility to keep living your life while you heal. Most Aetna commercial plans cover intensive outpatient care as an outpatient behavioral health benefit, and cover it the same way whether you attend in person or by secure video.
Curated Groups
Healing happens in connection. Our groups bring together people walking similar paths, guided by licensed clinicians who help create space for openness, reflection, safety and forward movement.
Individual Therapy
Your story matters. One-on-one sessions give you time to pause, reflect, and work through what’s getting in the way of balance, from managing anxiety and depression to building long-term resilience.
Family Therapy
Healing extends beyond the individual. Our family therapy invites loved ones into the process, rebuilding trust, communication, and understanding while setting boundaries that support lasting change.
Skill-Building Sessions
We teach everyday tools for real-world calm, from emotional regulation and mindfulness to relapse prevention and stress management. It’s not just what you learn here; it’s what you take with you.
Aftercare & Ongoing Support
Before graduation, every client leaves with a personalized plan for continued growth, whether that’s therapy, community groups, or ongoing coaching. Because progress doesn’t end when the program does.

Questions, answered clearly
What members ask most about starting virtual IOP with Thrive: coverage, cost, and how quickly care can begin.
Does Aetna cover virtual IOP?
In most cases, yes. Aetna commercial plans generally cover intensive outpatient care as an outpatient behavioral health benefit, and virtual care is covered on the same terms as in person care on most plans. What you pay depends on your individual plan, so we verify your benefits for free before you start and tell you the expected cost upfront. Thrive accepts commercial plans only. We do not accept Medicaid or Medicare.
Which states is Thrive in network with Aetna?
Arizona, California, Florida, Indiana and South Carolina. If you are in North Carolina or Texas, our Aetna agreements are still in progress, so call us and we will tell you honestly where things stand and check what other coverage you have.
What will I pay with Aetna?
It depends on your deductible, your copay or coinsurance, and whether your plan carries a separate behavioral health benefit. We check all of it before your first session and give you the numbers in writing. If the balance is more than you expected, we will talk through the options before anything begins.
Do I need prior authorization from Aetna?
Some Aetna plans require prior authorization for intensive outpatient care. Our admissions team submits that request for you, so you do not need to chase a referral from your primary care provider first. After a brief assessment, care can start within 24 hours.
Covered by a different insurer?
Thrive is also in network with Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, TRICARE, Oscar Health, Curative and Johns Hopkins Health Plans and the Blue plan in several of our states. Tell us who you are covered by and we will check your benefits for free.
